SNYDER NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 9th
READING NEWS This week we listened "Enemy Pie" and "What Does It Mean To Be Kind" as a way to refocus our class on the friendships they have made and how to be a good friend. After listening to "Enemy Pie" the students made a chart that would help them to retell the story. It showed how the main characters feelings changed from the beginning of the story to the end. After listening to "What Does It Mean To Be Kind" the students thought of things to do and then wrote them on hearts. The hearts then became the petals for a friendship flower. STATIONS: RED: The students worked with a parent playing a board game practicing the digraphs: sh, th, and ch. The students then did a cut and paste sort. ORANGE: The students used Starfall, Zach The Rat #9 for short a words. YELLOW: The students worked with Mrs. Bogdany reading CVC short vowel words and then adding a silent "e" to the end and changing the vowel sound. GREEN: The students watched a brainpopjr. video about Dr. Seuss and then played a rhyming game. BLUE: The students worked with me in their reading groups. Each child will come home each week with a paper labeled with the book read, activities done, and level. PURPLE: The students practiced writing a few sight words and then did a coloring paper practicing those sight words. Next weeks helpers: No helpers next week. The school is closed to all volunteers and guest readers. WRITING: We tried our hand at Personal Narratives" but were a little confused. Next week we will start again. We have talked about how a personal narrative tells a story with a beginning, middle, and end and is all about us! We used a "story hand" to help visualize the parts needed to tell a story. We need the characters (me!), the setting, the events and then an ending that sums up how we were feeling about what we did. |
CLASS BUDDIES: We did not see our buddies this week. SCIENCE LAB: We did not have lab this week. MATH: This week we continued to look at 2D shapes and sorting them by their attributes including size, color, shape, curved sides and straight sides. We have several good math games that we know how to play on ABCya.com. We tried to use pattern blocks to make pictures. This was tricky for those who have a hard time visualizing puzzles. But something that will continue to happen as they grow and develop problem solving skills. MATH STATIONS: RED: "Beat You to 15cents" ORANGE: ABCya "First to Five" dice game YELLOW: Get 10 Acorns game using adding and subtracting 1,2, or 3. GREEN: Geoboards BLUE: "Money March" counting nickels and pennies PURPLE: Graphing a bag of shapes IMPORTANT DATES: March 2: author visit at 9:30 March 12 and 17th: Early dismissal at 11:15 March 13: Birthday party for Kody, and Mrs. Snyder at 2:30 March 19: Welcome Spring Party at 12:30 |
